2018 Myanmar-Korea Educational Cooperation Workshop

From January 10 to 16, 2018, Department of Myanmar Examinations (DME) and Korea Institute for Curriculum and Evaluation (KICE) jointly hosted and organized "2018 Myanmar-Korea Educational Cooperation Workshop" in Yangon, Myanmar.

The purpose of this workshop was to share knowledge and experience on national/international level student assessment of both countries, based on the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between two Education Ministries of the Republic of Korea (ROK) and the Union of the Republic of Myanmar in November 2016.

60 officers from Department of Basic Education (DBE) and DME related to student evaluation and assessment have participated in this workshop. Opening remark was delivered by H.E. Dr. Myo Thein Gyi, the Union Minister for Education of Myanmar on the first day of the workshop. The welcoming remark was made by Dr. Jimin Cho, the Vice President of Division for Educational Evaluation at KICE.

The main workshop was conducted in two parts; the first was entitled as "Evaluation and Assessments on Education with International Trends," and the second part was "Administration of College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) in Korea.”

Officials from DME and researchers from KICE made detailed presentations on various issues on educational evaluation systems of each countries, and an expert from Asian Development Bank explained about the present and future of educational assessment in Myanmar.

Each session was followed by an intensive discussion, and moreover provided with an opportunity for the participants to actively share their own perspectives on how to enhance the quality of education in Myanmar.

Based on this workshop, DME and KICE are expected to strengthen their cooperation further on exchanging ideas and insights on educational assessment systems.
